Education
Education is managed at the provincial level, where there is a department or ministry of education responsible for the organization, delivery and assessment of education. Although education across the provinces and territories are similar, there are distinct differences to ensure that specific needs are met.
When it comes to post-secondary education, there are approximately 213 public and private universities, and 223 public colleges and institutes across Canada offering qualifications at various levels. Higher education has evolved in Canada over the years where universities are no longer the only institutions granting degrees. According to the Council of Ministers of Education, Canada, ‘A recognized postsecondary institution is a private or public institution that has been given full authority to grant degrees, diplomas, and other credentials by a public or private act of the provincial or territorial legislature or through a government-mandated quality assurance mechanism.’ (CMEC).
